Is there a God?

The God of the Bible proves his existence and his power in many ways.  One of these ways is through Prophecy, or the prediction of future events.  This is not like the predictions of fortune tellers, where the predictions are vague.  The prophetic predictions of the Bible are specific, detailed and explicit.  Bible predictions are also given many hundreds  of years in advance and are fulfilled with astonishing accuracy.  God says:

Isaiah 48:3I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did [them] suddenly, and they came to pass.”

Who is the God of the Bible?

The God of the Bible is the all powerful God that created the universe.  He is also a loving God and offers all people the hope of living for ever in perfect happiness in the Kingdom that he will shortly established on the earth.

He wants people to believe in Him and want to give people his kingdom:

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is … not willing that any should perish

Luke 12:32 It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Is it important to know about God?

The Bible says that it is important.
John 17:3 “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God”

God offers people eternal life, but knowing about God is required to obtain life eternal. This short video explains how God is Real and shows the importance of knowing God.

God is a Person

God has a bodily existence, but cannot be seen.  God is not just an all pervading spirit which has no being. 1 Timothy 6:16     ” Who only hath immortality, dwelling in light which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen nor can see”  This verse shows that God is located (somewhere in the heavens) and not just a spirit that is everywhere.

Mark 16:19    “So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”

John 1:18      “no man hath seen God at any time”

God Dwells in the Heavens

God dwells somewhere in the expanse of the Universe, but we know not where.

Isaiah 66:1                 “Heaven is my throne”

Psalm 123:1              “O thou that dwellest in the heavens”

1 Kings 8:30, 34        “hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place”

God is Eternal

God has no beginning or ending.  God is from everlasting to everlasting.  God will never die, and is self-existent.

Psalm 90:2                        “from everlasting to everlasting”

1 Timothy 1:17                  “the king eternal, immortal, invisible”

Psalm 102:12, 24-27       “thy years have no end”

John 5:26                   “the father hath life in himself”

God is One

The Bible teaches that God is one.

Deuteronomy 6:4         “The LORD our God is one LORD”    reiterated by Christ in Mark 12:29

1 Corinthians 8:6        “There is but one God the Father”

Ephesians 4:6           “There is one God and father of all”

1 Timothy 2:5        “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”.

God is Omnipresent

God is everywhere present (Omnipresent) and is all knowing (Omniscient)

Psalm 139:2-12        “knowest my down sitting and uprising”

Jeremiah 23:24        “can any hide himself in secret places and I shall not see him”

God is Omnipotent

God is all powerful, has ultimate strength, and can do all things.

Isaiah 40:12-15         “measured the waters in the hollow of his hand”

Job 38:22-23             “treasures of the snow reserved against the day of trouble”

God created all things

The Bible records that God miraculously created all life upon the earth in 6 days.  The first two chapters of Genesis covers this in detail.  For example:

Genesis 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind:

Genesis 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:

Genesis 1:27 God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The Name of God

The Name of God is revealed in the Bible as “Yahweh”.  This name is sometimes incorrectly written as “Jehovah”.  The Hebrew word only has the consonants in it – “YHWH” – but textual and archaeological research has shown that “Yahweh” is the correct English translation.  In many versions of the Bible the name of God is obscured and is written as “LORD” (all capitals) or “GOD” (all capitals).

Exodus 15:3      “The LORD (Yahweh) is a man of war, the LORD (Yahweh) is his name.”

Exodus 20:7      “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD (Yahweh) thy God in vain; for the LORD (Yahweh) will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

Exodus 33:19    “I will proclaim the name of the LORD (Yahweh) before thee.”

Psalm 83:18       “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH (Yahweh), art the most high over all the earth.”

God has a purpose with this earth

God’s purpose is to fill the earth with his glory.

Numbers 14:21    “But as truly as I live all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord”.

Habakkuk 2:14     “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”

What does “glory” mean?  In the Bible passages that talk about this, God’s glory means His character.  When the man Moses asked to see God’s glory:

Exodus  33:18I beseech thee show me thy glory

What God showed him was his character:

Exodus 34:6-7 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,  Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation

How God works with You

God has provided His son Jesus Christ to be the means whereby we can have our sins forgiven and have eternal life.  God caused his holy spirit to come upon a virgin called Mary and she conceived Jesus Christ who is “Son of God” (because his Father is God) and “Son of Man” (because he was born of a woman).

Luke 1:35       And the angel … said unto her (Mary), The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

God’s offer to You

God offers you eternal life and eternal happiness.

How can you have this?  Belief and Baptism

When can you have this?  When Jesus Christ returns which is when God’s Kingdom will be set up on earth.
